One of the largest ocean swells to roll into Poverty Bay for several years caused the cessation of loading operations to the home boat Hauraki last month. On the final trip to the vessel, Gisborne Lightering Company shipwright, Harry MacDonald, captured this striking picture of the lighter Moki, almost obscured as it ploughed through a big swell.

Gisborne harrier Rex Tait forces a smile as he heads along the Matawhero straight while on the homeward run of the H.B.-P.B. Athletics championship 50,000 metres walk. Tait was the only competitor to complete the course, and finished with a time of 6hr 43min l2sec. Accompanying him by bicycle is Ian McErlich.
