Prime Minister In Gisborne
The Prime Minister, Mr Keith Holyoake, and a large Ministerial party conducted a survey of the East Coast district last month over a period of two days.
Concerned at the lack of development in the area, the party's visit was considered a most important one by local authorities.
The survey party conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the region up to Anaura Bay and including the Waimata Valley, and the following day flew over the whole coast area in their Air Force Dakota.
At the airport, Mr Holyoake had a serious discussion with the president of the Gisborne-East Coast Development and Research Association, Mr A. R. Smith.
With Mr R. G. Gerard, the Minister of Lands, Mr Holyoake waves farewell to Gisborne from the door of his plane.
Mr Holyoake and the Member for the Gisborne district, Mrs Esme Tombleson, caught in happy mood.
