Boys' High Swimming

An intermediate swimmer who competed in the senior events to gain stronger competition proved to be the star of the Gisborne Boys' High school's annual swimming sports at the McRae Baths.

The swimmer, Jim Westwood, broke five records. three of them set 12 years ago, and equalled a sixth, to win the senior championship.

Another senior, Glen Sutton, who was a member of the New Zealand surf team to Australia, chopped 20 seconds off the 440 yards freestyle record to win the McKeague Cup.

Two other senior records were bettered by breaststroker Robert Powell.
