Mr I. J. Mallett (right), who has held the position of District Engineer with the Gisborne Post Office for two and-a-half years, was farewelled by a large group of Post Office employees at a function in the P and T workshops, Kahutia Street. Mr Mallett has been transferred on promotion to Dunedin, and is pictured being presented with a fry pan by Mr D. P. Lane, chief technician at the telephone exchange.

Twenty-five new appointees to the public services recently attended a two-day State Service Commission course in the Maori Affairs Land Court. They are pictured with their instructor, Mr A. Manchester (centre), of the staff training branch of the State Services Commission in Wellington. The trainees were: Moira Slessor and Elane Curtis (Education), Berate Priestley, Avril Jones, Judy McLatchie, and Craig Williams (Lands and Survey), Christine Gavin and Susan Fuller (public Trust), Frances Smythe, Carol Adsett, Ken Pickett, David Pardoe, Russ Jones, and Bruce McNee (Maori Affairs), Peter Scandlyn, Api Maynard, Alan Muir, Lyn Parker, and Dennis Malone (Ministry of Works), Sue Roberts (Valuation), Margaret Williams (Customs), Terry Byrne (Justice), Leonie Hyde (Transport), and Lynette Whelan (Government Life).
