On his return flight to the South Island after breaking the Dunedin to Auckland airspeed record, South Canterbury farmer Mr John McDonald paid a brief visit to Gisborne in his reconstructed wartime Mustang aircraft. The immaculate fighter cut five minutes off the 15year-old record with a time of one hour, 48 minutes. The Mustang is pictured on arrival at Darton Field.
Mr McDonald is interviewed by Station 2XG news reporter, Bill Wilkie.
