Giant Growths

This man-size mushroom was found by Mark Woodyard, Murphy Road, Wainui, when he was mushrooming in the Waingake Vailey. Measuring seven inches across, it is compared in this picture with a standard size one by its finder.

Lynne and Kay Anderson, 15 Grafton Road, display the giant puff-ball they found at Ngatapa. It measured 13 inches across at its widest part, and was three feet in circumference.

Three red and white spotted toadstools were found by Mrs D. L. Rare, Carnarvon Street, on Pine Dale Station, Parikanapa. With their distinctive colouring, the toadstools were very similar in appearance to artificial decorative ones.

A proud gardener is Mr J. L. Davis, 22 Manuka Street, who has produced a row of exceptionally tall tomato plants. Grown from Italian seed, the tallest is eight feet high.
