Spectacular Wind Damage
Two minutes of freak wind gusts hit the city late last year, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
Hardest hit by the gusts was the storage yard of Clare and Clare Ltd, in Kahutia Street, where a large iron and wood roof was lifted clean off its building (below), and deposited as a heap of broken wreckage in an adjacent yard (below right).
The main glass house in Lee Bros Nursery, Buiwer Road, suffered many broken panes. Here Mr Fred Lee surveys his nursery from a gaping hole in the damaged glass house.
Mr R. Clarke, groundsman at the Te Hapara School, poses with the large tree in front of the school which was uprooted by the wind.
