Sparkling International Soccer

The Poverty Bay representative soccer team conceded a defeat at the hands of the spritely New Caledonian side when they met in perfect conditions on the Childers Road Reserve.

Playing on a field considerably larger in size than they were accustomed to, the home side performed with credit, holding the visitors to an even one-all score at half time. Early in the second spell, the fitter and faster New Caledonians put on the pressure to score three quick goals, to give them their final score of four goals to Poverty Bay's one.

Poverty Bay's front line attack was disrupted at the end of the first spell when international inside-left, Alan Sefton, was injured in a clash in the goalmouth.
