Narrow Defeat By Counties

The Poverty Bay representative rugby team suffered its second last-minute defeat this season when it went down to Counties by 17 points to 14 after a try in the last minute of play.

After leading 9-3 at half-time, Poverty Bay looked to be in for a win, but the Counties forwards came storming back in the second spell to supply their backs with plenty of ball, and it was only a matter of time before their points started to rise.

Unfortunately, their only two tries of the game were both very much in doubt, especially in the minds of the local supporters.

However, after this generally-considered undeserved defeat, the P.B. team avenged itself three days later by winning its final game of the season, against a Waikato XV.
