The Faces Behind The Voices

The voices of Station 2XG announcers become familiar sounds in most Gisborne homes, but for many radio listeners, the faces and identities behind the voices remain unknown.

On this page we picture four of 2XG's more recent additions to its announcing staff.

Keith Everson, the "Toffee Apple Man", spent several years in the Pacific and Australia in various types of employment, including announcing, before joining the staff of 2XG.

×

Joe Corry, former Station 2ZC personality, conducts feature programmes like "Early Date" as well as doing routine announcing.

×

Beryl Bourne, the station's only full-time female announcer, is a newcomer to Gisborne and New Zealand, having worked as a broadcaster for a public relations firm in London before coming to this country.

×

Rosemary Mills, of "Let's Go Shopping with Rosemary" fame, conducting her half-hour morning session for the women folk. Rosemary is also responsible for gathering the advertising copy for her programme. She transferred to Gisborne from Whangarei a few months ago.

While at 2XG we photographed the new station manager, Mr Earle Rowell, who has returned to Gisborne after 15 years. He was then first officer in charge of the then new Station 2XG. Prior to his new appointment, Earle was an executive producer in the Auckland studios of the N.Z.B.C.

Bill Wilkie, former 2XG copywriter, and farming and sports programmes organiser, has now been appointed full-time news journalist.
