H.B.-P.B. Cycling Championships

Strong winds prevailed for the annual Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay road cycling championships, held at Makaraka last month.

Starting and finishing at the Makaraka Hall, the four sections of senior, junior, colts A and B, all had good entries.

The 100-mile senior event, raced over the 25 mile Lavenham Road circuit, was won for the third time by Wairoa's Alf Baker, with Gisborne's Ray Brown and Dave Spellars in second and third places respectively. Only four of the nine starters finished.
