A rare seven-gill shark was caught off Waikanae Beach near the abattoirs by Mr Wally Irving last month. It was 5ft 9in long. The second one known to "Photo News" to have been caught in Poverty Bay in the last two months, the species is more common in Australian waters where it is considered dangerous.
Looking cautjously at its gaping mouth is Mrs Irving, the Elgin School secretary, and two pupils, Anthony Muirhead and Joanne Malcon.
Gisborne's Greywing basketball team pictured during a visit to Rotorua last month where it was playing in the annual Kurungaituku basketball tournament for club and smaller representative teams.
