Two former pupils of the Gisborne Boys' High School, Messrs Ian Wright (left), son of Mr and Mrs W. Wright, formerly of Gisborne, and Ross Ferguson, son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Ferguson, 6 Bloomfield Road, have been awarded senior scholarships by Victoria University of Wellington. Ian Wright won a scholarship in mathematics, and Ross Ferguson, in biology and bio-chemistry. He also won a national scholarship. Both have recently completed their Bachelor of Science degrees. While at the Boys' High School they were outstanding pupils, and in 1960 received the first University Scholarships to be awarded to the school for 16 years.

The Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs H. H. Barker, receiving one of two suitcases from the deputy-Mayor, Mr R. Crosby, on behalf of the City Council, as a farewell gift to them at a function at Ulverstone. Mr and Mrs Barker have left on a six months' tour of the British Isles and the Continent.

The Public Relations Officer, Mr John Burland, loading a carton of clothing into his car at the railway station. The garments were sent from "A Gisborne Admirer" living in Hastings, in response to the radio appeal conducted by the P.R.O. for the Health Camp. A further donation of six pairs of boys' trousers has been received from an executive officer of the N.Z. Textile and Garment Manufacturing Federation in Wellington.
