Long-standing Landmark Removed

A row of approximately 100 poplar trees, of very even height and spacing, which has been a prominent landmark in the Patutahi district for 80 years, was removed recently.

The trees were situated on the property....appropriately named "Poplars"....which was formerly owned by Mr Jimmy Atkins, a prominent sheep breeder. It has been taken over by Mr Anthony De Costa, who intends using it for cropping.

Cutting the trees down was Mr Jack Sanders, who has recently returned from a trip to Australia as manager of the New Zealand chopping team.
