Up The Pole

To celebrate the, installation of Gisborne's first traffic lights, Station 2XG announcer Johnny Shearer conducted his breakfast session 31 feet above the intersection, atop an unused power pole.

Commanding a grand view of the corner, he was able to intersperse his programme with humorous goings-on below as morning motorists made their first contact with the new lights.

He was placed into position by Monk Bros. giant crane, and brought back to earth again more than three hours later by the Fire Brigade.
