A grass fire in the pine plantation on the north-western slopes of Kaiti Hill, which broke out three times in 24 hours, had the Gisborne Fire Brigade busy during Easter weekend. The fire was thought to be deliberately lit. The brigade pumped more than 25,000 gallons of water into the area in their efforts to keep it extinguished.
