Seven giant potatoes, totalling 20lb in weight, which were grown from one root by Mr Bill Beer, Parikanapa, 2800 feet above sea level, and 30 miles from Gisborne beyond Waerenga-o-kuri.

Helen O'Connell, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. M. O'Connell, 669 Gladstone Road, who celebrated her fourth leap year birthday on 29th February.

Members of the Gisborne, Red Cross help to load one of the two trucks which carted full loads of household goods to Opotiki for the relief of residents striken by the recent floods. The foods were the result of an appeal launched by the Red Cross which had spontaneous and generous support from the people of Gisborne.
