There are big changes going on in Customhouse Street these days, including the final touches to Gisborne's elaborate new courthouse. Another wellknown building adorning the kerbside in front of the courthouse simply had to go. City Council workmen arrived with demolition tools. Contrary to what this picture might suggest, there was no sitting down on the job, and within a few hours the edifice had been pulled down and carried away.

This kumara growing in Vic Davy's hairdressing saloon window has certainly excelled itself; so much so, that Vic is considering claiming a world record for its growth. From the one plant, 48 sprouts have grown to a height of 11½ feet. Vic's grand-daughter, Clare Wilkinson, is pictured with this oddity.
