A view of the 37 year-old wooden Rotokoutuku Bridge, crossing the Waiapu River near Ruatoria, which was recently blown from its concrete piers with a series of explosions. Its replacement, a steel truss bridge, will cross the river at the same position, using the original piers modified with concrete caps. The temporary bridge and Causeway, which are carrying the Coast traffic while the bridge is under construction, can be seen at right.
