Guy Fawkes Night

A sky filled with zooming rockets, and a host of bonfires, marked the celebration of Guy Fawkes night in Gisborne.

At Wainui Beach, residents and surf club members gathered around an enormous fire laden with guys from a competition conducted for the children.

Alfred Cox Park this year was the centre of the city's celebrations, with three fires and a large crowd marking the occasion.

Once again, a ring of private fires circled the beaches of Poverty Bay.
