Big Day at Te Karaka

Thursday, July 18, will be remembered in Te Karaka as the day on which two schools were officially opened by the Minister of Education, Mr W. B. Tennant. Working to a tight schedule, the Minister first opened the new primary school, and, half an hour later, Waikohu College.

The opening of the college was a new step in the educational system. The college starts at Form 1 and is the first of its kind in the North Island. (The South Island has one at Geraldine). This dispenses with the costly Intermediate Schools and the need for parents to buy school uniforms for a two-year period.
