Boxing Tourney

Gisborne boxing fans were entertained by what must have been one of the most thrilling displays seen anywhere.

Good clean fighting, with plenty of action, had the spectators on their toes throughout the evening. The contests took place in the Y.M.C.A. early last month and included the New Zealand trials for a team to visit Australia later this year. Four N.S.W. boxers fought two Gisborne and two Auckland boys in the main bouts of the evening. Five Gisborne boys were engaged, all of whom won their bouts. Despite their polished performances, the Australians were not quite good enough for the Gisborne twins, Peter and Paul Lister. Toro George of Auckland won his bout but Keith Burt of Auckland lost to Billy Booth.

Altogether the spectators had their money's worth and returned to their homes well satisfied.
