Barry Cup

The annual Basketball Tournament for the Barry Cup was played off at the end of last month. With seven-a-side and on handicaps the finalists had a long hard struggle before they reached their last game of the day. Girls' High A1 and Greywing A1 were the finalists and the game started at 4.45. It was just about dark by the time it finished at 5.15 when Girls' High emerged victors. Consequently, these pictures had to be taken by flashlight.

Winners of the junior section were Manutuke with Whangara taking the Annette McLeod Cup for runners-up.

5 o'clock on a muggy winter's afternoon makes play difficult. These pictures of the final show that the girls still had plenty of energy, even though they had played some half-dozen games during the day.

Four girls qualified as referees during the day. Annette McLeod (N.Z. Tour), Dawn Gallagher, Kath Thomas and Mary Kay (Provincial).

Scorers were Judy Adcroft, Wendy Hellens and Mrs C. Williamson, president of the Basketball Association.
