Air Scout Awards

Although Gisborne can be considered as a particularly "air-minded" district, it was not until last year that the fast-growing Air Scout Movemant started a troop here. Even so, the late start was compensated for by an unmatched keenness and diligence which culminated in the winning of a ailver trophy in competition with the Dominion's 14 other troops. At an impressive, though largely informal, ceremony the Te Hapara Troop was presented with the Recognition Certificate by Wing Commander N. Innes-Jones, RNZAF. Major General Sir W. Gentry, representing the Governor General, presented the troop with the Newall Trophy and certificate. Top scouting officials present included Air Commodore R. Cohan, Brigadier Hugh Robinson and District Commiasioner Mr F. Swindell.
