Boys High School Anzac Service

Each year, on the day preceding Anzac Day, the Gisborne Boys High School conduct their own service in remembrance of Old Boys who made the supreme sacrifice in two world wars. The simplicity of the service gives greater meaning to its need. It brings home to those present that the freedom they enjoy was bought at a price. Boys who had been taught in this School, who'd played on these fields, had grown up and gone to war. It kept some of them. And now the sons of those who returned, and the comrades of those who did not, are remembering. These pictures capture the full meaning of Anzac Day, a meaning which is sometimes lost in the more complex citizens' service at the War Memorial on the Esplanade.
