Gisborne Entertainer

Gisborne audiences in the Opera House recently had the privilege of being entertained by a local boy, in the form of King Solomon Pohatu, the versatile star of the Maori Hi Five showband.

Solly, who is the 22 year-old son of a Muriwai builder, and a distant descendant of Te Kooti, has been a member of the band for more than three years and has toured with them around the world.

Intensely interested in his music, he plays with ease the six instruments in the band, his favourite being the piano, and also sings.
