Brighter Broadcasting

2XG's policy to give more listener appeal to programmes had announcers and technicians dreaming up weird and wonderful ideas for their Breakfast Sessions.

Besides giving people an opportunity to see them at work, these outside broadcasts enable people to see the faces behind the already familiar voices. With the story of Eileen Cook buying a hat, these pictures show all four Station 2XG radio announcers.

The next best thing to breakfast in bed on your birthday is a Breakfast Session in bed. Senior announcer Keith Hambleton, from a bed in Humphreys Gladstone Road Show-window, smiles at his audience Technician Arthur Norgrove donned a tartan toned dressing gown for the occasion.

Announcer Tony Chevis asks Solly Pohatu, Gisborne member of ths Hi-Fivaa, to spin a disc. Solly spent over an hour in the studio reading ads and helping Tony to conduct his session.

Bacon and eggs were not listed on the official programme when announcer Stuart Stubbs and technician Peter Omer broadcast a breakfast session from the passenger lounge of Gisborne Airport.
