Our Cover

If ready access could be gained to all of them, the district's waterfalls (including those at Waikaremoana) would undoubtedly rank as a major tourist attraction. Our colour covers this month feature two of them. On the front cover is a picture of the Rere falls, 34 miles from Gisborne, where a most attractive picnic spot has been developed in full view of the falls. Our back cover shows the Te Reinga falls, with the river in flood. The awesome plunge of these falls into a narrow chasm is one of the sights of the district, and when the scene is highlighted by a rainbow in the spray, as in this picture taken by Bob Hepburn from above the falls, it is something well worth the short deviation from the Gisborne-Wairoa via Tiniroto highway, which is all that ia required of the traveller to view this remarkable sight.
