National Rowing

Gisborne oarsmen met with considerable success at the recent National rowing championships which were held at Lake Karapiro.

Five crews competed in the finals of their events making this the most promising showing by local competitors for many years.

In the maiden double sculls Tom Couper and Allan Tidswell, coxed by Wayne Tautau, gained second place, and in the senior coxed pairs, Stan Radford, Peter Walker, and Barry Poole (cox), were also placed second.

Tom Couper gained 7th place in the single sculls event.
