House Burned To The Ground

An unoccupied four roomed house in Te Hapara Road was completely destroyed by fire on a recent week night when it mysteriously burst into flames.

The Gisborne Fire Brigade received the call shortly after midnight, but upon arrival at the scene could do little to save the dwelling.

In fighting the fire, the brigade had to run out more than 1500 feet of hose from the nearest hydrant in Lytton Road.

All that remained the next morning were water tanks, sheets of iron, the chimney and coal stove, and charred timber.
