Mr Tom Williams, clerk of works on the new Govt. Life Insurance building on the corner of Gladstone Road and Grey Street, examining a circular domed brick structure, thought to be an old water pump well, which was unearthed during excavations on the site. An authority on old Gisborne recalls that in the '80s the corner was used as a horse tendering yard, and that a water pump was probably installed on the site.
