An enourmous cloud of smoke which rose from a controlled scrub fire covering an area of 200 acres at Tangihanga Station, at the rear of Lavenham Road, blanketed out the afternoon sun over Gisaborne on a recent week day. It is pictured from the harbour basin, re-appearing from below the cloud.

A Cook County Council grader, driven by Mr W. Mason, preparing the ford through the waimata River below the swingbridge at Longbush. The ford, which serves two country stations, is used by heavy trucks.

Mrs D. M. Willis, 26 Churchill Cres., with her speciousum rebra coloured lily, which grew 100 blooms instead of the normal three.

Gisborne Yacht Club Tanner Cup representative Steve Thompson, presenting the G.Y.C. commodore, Mr Randal Clare, with the Gisborne Cup, which he won as runner-up in the series. The cup was presented two years ago by the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, when the Tanner Cup races were held here.
