Clowning on the Skating Rink

There was much fun-and-games on the skating rink at Alfred Cox Park, when the Gisborne Skating Club held a novelty teenage shipwreck night.

Although light rain marred the occasion to some extent, it did not dampen the spirits of the hundreds of young people who attended it.

A grand parade, led by "Jumbo the Elephant", opened the evening, which concluded with a spectacular blazing hoop jump on skates by three of the club's members.

The parade halted abruptly when Jumbo decided to stop for a rest, and refused to budge regardless of the gentle coaxing given him by his warders.
