Harrier Relay Race

A message of goodwill from the Mayor of Wairoa, Mr R. E. Shortt, to the Mayor of Gisborne, Mr H. H. Barker, was conveyed in a novel manner recently when the Gisborne Harrier Club held their first relay race over the 65 miles of roads separating the two centres.

Carrying the message in a baton, the two teams of twelve runners covered the distance in the exceptionally good time of six hours, 53 minutes.

The club intends to hold the relay annually, and hopes to attract teams from outside the district to compete with.
