Third Boat Show

"Safety at Sea" was the theme of the Gisborne Yacht Club's third boat show, which was officially opened for its most successful three-day season in the Army Hall, by the Minister of Marine, Mr R. G. Gerard.

Getting under way in grand style with a parade through the city consisting of 98 exhibits, which would surely claim the all-time record, the show provided a host of entertainment, including marine exhibits, mannequin parades, and underwater, life-saving, and Canoe Club demonstrations, for the five and a half thousand people who attended it.

Outside the hall was a most impressive display of privately owned vessels, which ranged in size from dinghies equipped with outboard motors to ocean-going pleasure launches.
