Taken in the last over of the anniversary weekend match between Poverty Bay and Bay of Plenty for the Rigden Shield, von by Poverty Bay, this picture shows J. Turnbull bowling(at right) to N. Robson (B.O.P.). In this innings Turnbull took 4 for 55.

Some people are born on Christmas Bay and some on All Fools' Day, but Mr W.L. King, of Waihirere, celebrates his birthday on the first day of each new year. He celebrated his 70th on January 1, 1955, and is seen here giving the new year a bright start by lighting up the candles on his birthday cake.

Surf club members (right) were on duty throughout the season at the local beaches. They did well at the N.Z. championships at Waihi, and next issue we hope to give their achievements proper emphasis.
