The new £190,000 Matawhero traffic bridge is now pushing out across the Waipaoa as the river reaches its summer low-level flow. Taken three weeks ago, this photograph shows the superstructure extending out into the actual river for the building of the big concrete caissons on which the bridge will be built.
Meanwhile, roading work is being carried out to prepare for the redistribution of the highways in this locality, and plans are well advanced for the river diversion.
