Past & Present

The changes wrought by 74 years, even in the distant hills, are shown in the photograph above, from Mr Ledger's collection now with the Gisborne Museum. Taken in 1880, from approximately the position of the Wi Pere Memorial, it shows the view up the Taruheru River in what is now the centre of the town. House on right was probably where "Kelvin Rise", now the museum and art gallery, stands. Hill in centre is at far end of whitaker Street. Same hill, in picture below, now has house on shoulder.
