The Gisborne High School's first fifteen, 1954, won the P. B. Rugby Union's junior competition and efficiency cup. The team also won annual matches with Napier Boys' High School, (6 points to 5), Hastings High School (11 to 3), and the East Coast Secondary School representatives (20 to 6) and drew with Sacred Heart College 3-all.
