The golden sands of the beach at Pouawa will attract their share of surf bathers as the weather gets warmer. Pouawa is the most northerly of the six beaches so readily available by road from Gisborne, and has a charm all of its own. This view was taken from the hill to the north of the beach.

One of the massive lions which guard the War Memorial on the Esplanade. Proposals are in hand for the floodlighting of the memorial on a permanent basis. It is estimated that the installation would cost about £250 and the running cost about £2 a week. In August the Power Board agreed that it would pay the cost of the installation if the Borough Council would pay the maintenance.
