On a Sunny Saturday

On a sunny Saturday morning, we went wandering along the waterfront, soaking up the warm sunshine after a spell of rain and cold winds. We found the waterfront a very busy place, considering this was a Saturday morning — a hive of industry from wharves to beach.

First of all, above, we found gangs busy unloading the coastal steamer Turihaua of its cargo of foodstuffs, cement, artificial fertilisers and dozens of the other necessities of life and industry in Gisborne.

Further along, we found tradesmen putting the finishing touches to a section of the new lighter wharf opposite the freezing works.
