Oh How it Rained

With that perversity for which it is so well known, the weather has done its worst lately for several Gisborne brides.

It all started on July 10 last when Patricia, lovely daughter of Mr and Mrs H. T. Holden, Rimunui, was married at Holy Trinity Church to Michael George, son of Mr and Mrs H. Beamish, Whanawhana, Hastings.

For the great day, an umbrella was a suitable addition to the bride's ensemble.

Steady rain outside the church door failed to produce a single flicker of disappointment to happy bride's face as she waved to photographers. At right, a radiant smile for hubby before making a dash for the car.

Group photograph by Lloyd Cornish taken at the Holden home after the ceremony shows bride and groom with their attendants. Mr R. Beamish, the bridegroom's cousin (groomsman), and Miss Naomi Hegarty, of Waikereru (bridesmaid). On right, Mr and Mrs Garth Mackintosh, of Havelock North, who were best man and matron of honour.

But Diane Barron, one of the bridesmaids (left) chose to make a run for it.

It was blowing a mere 40 m.p.h. up Derby Street, and really pouring, when Charmian June Currie arrived for her wedding to William Watson. Even the short dash from taxi to church door was out of the question without an umbrella for the bride (right).
