Dr and Mrs Manikam, eminent church authorities from India, who were recent visitors to Gisborne, are seen above at a youth tea during their visit. At left is the Rev. J. Kingsley Fairbairn, and at right, Mr S. Riley, chairman of the local youth committee of the National Council of Churches. Dr. Manikam has since 1951 been joint secretary for East Asia under the World Council of Churches and the International Missionary Council.

R. Foster winning the June 20 race held by the Gisborne Amateur Cycling Club, over 28 miles to Pouawa and return. He gained unusual distinction of winning three placings in the one race—the massed start race, the sealed handicap section, and fastest time (1hr 39min 50sec).
