Makauri School Jubilee

Approximately 600 former pupils of the Makauri School attended the reunion held on May 21 (ball), May 22 (roll call and banquet), and May 23 (church service). "Photo News" camera recorded these shots of the roll call function at the school on the Saturday afternoon.

Makauri School, opened in 1887, was one of those founded by the late MrEdward Claude Bolton, who was known as the "Father of the Country School Movement" in this district.

Only former headmaster who attended was Mr A.W. Soundy(left), seen here shaking hands with present headmaster, Mr A.W. Bullen.Mr Soundy was head from 1912 to 1915, and Mr Bullen has held office since 1932.

Mr Seymour Braid-wood-Bolton, son of the first headmaster, is seen here renewing acquaintance with Messrs George Barber and Dan Neenan.
