High Seas And Keen Winds

Changing winds and heavy seas made conditions testing for the East Coast and Poverty Bay yachting championships. The two-day event was held on February 6 and 7, and produced some close finishes despite the weather.

Indicative of the conditions is this shot of Cherub 590, a Napier-Wairoa yacht, running before the wind with spinnaker at full stretch.

Peter Bonica's "Fintahi" was first in the champion Finn section.
