Thistle Springs Surprise

Thistle, little-fancied against Athletic, surprised even its most ardent supporters by winning the Nelson section of the Chatham Cup. It will now play in the final of the South Island section in Christchurch. Thistle won 1-0, but scored its goal with only 13 minutes' play remaining. The team showed vastly improved form, with every member playing inspired football.
