"Dig This Shirttearing Monster"

×

"That's him. That's the bloke wot done it." A still groggy Nelson Hill points an accusing finger from the tattered remains of a shirt at the hulking, hirsute Rasputin a few seconds before he raised the hand of big John Da Silva in victory. This was the climax of the bout between the unloved Rasputin and everybody's darling, John Da Silva, before a chocker house in the Y. M. Earlier, Rasputin had gained a fall over Da Silva and Da Silva followed this up in the next round with a fall over Rasputin. Then came round 5 and while Da Silva was on the receiving end of a barrage of elbow jolts, referee Hill tried to intervene. For his pains he was flicked off the ground by the 20st Rasputin, tossed on the mat, hauled bodily across the mat and had the shirt torn off his back as he was discarded. A stunned crowd erupted into pleasurable screams as Da Silva's hand was raised. A tremendous finish to a great season of wrestling.
