New Gymnasium for Nayland College

Through the concerted efforts of the staff and pupils of the school and the community, Nayland College now has a new gymnasium. The new building, named the Chisnall Memorial Gymnasium after the late Mr Harry Chisnall, a member of the school's first board, was opened last month by Mr Tom Morrison, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union council.

In outlining the efforts to obtain a gymnasium, the headmaster, Mr W. C. Kane, said that when the school had opened three years ago he set his sights on a gymnasium within five years. The building plans were given a boost by the late Mr Chisnall who donated $4000 to the college for this purpose. The completed building cost about $27,000. It is 100ft long by 60ft wide.
