The Arts Ball
Entering the Stoke Memorial Hall earlier this month, patrons of the arts stepped out of Nelson into the world of Toulouse Lautrec, complete with Can Can girls (?) and the Folies Bergere, the setting for this year's arts ball. Climax to the evening was the high-kicking and strenuous effort of the Can Can chorus, performed by as thick-legged a bunch of gals as you ever did see. What a gas! No doubt about it, however. A great night in a wonderful setting, and the colourful costumes of the patrons certainly added to the scene.

Belle of the ball, Thelma Wellbrock.
Back stage, les gals help each other to disrobe after the Can Can. At the moment Michael Fulton appears to be doing all the helping while Richard Harris just suffers.
And into some Common Market food for Michael Fulton (quick-change artist), Gordon Cole and Jane Evans.
Clutching le lampost and Lois Heath is Geoff Heath.
"ave some of mine, cheri," quoth Philip Coote as Pauline Catterall obliges.
Jan and Allan Gillingham wonder at it all.
