Junior Orchestra

For all these children pictured above, some 120 of them, music means a lot. So much, in fact, that they gave up a morning each day of the second week of their holidays to take part in an orchestral course at the Nelson Intermediate School. Some of the children came from as far as Westport and Millerton to take the course. The course was arranged by the district music adviser, Mr D. A. Jack, and the headmaster of the intermediate school, Mr G. C. ChapmanCohen. Six other adults also helped train the students in instrumental work and joined the orchestra. Climax of the week was a short concert of five pieces played to parents on the final day. It was at this concert we took these pix.
